Summary
Position Overview:
Wholesome Generation is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Middle School Teacher to lead instruction, including math/science, ELA, within a nature-based learning environment. This role involves working closely with a small cohort of 10–12 students, partnering with co-teachers to design and implement an integrated, student-centered curriculum that emphasizes inquiry, exploration, and real-world application.
This role is ideal for an educator who values deep learning, strong relationships, and innovative, hands-on teaching. The successful candidate will be passionate about education and committed to nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship in a close-knit school community.
Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in areas such as math, science, biology, or ELA
- Design interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences connected to the natural environment (we are located at a 5.5-acre community space with a creek bed on site, as well as horses and gardens)
- Facilitate hands-on, outdoor learning, including field studies, experiments, and environmental investigations
- Collaborate with co-teachers to plan instruction, assess student progress, and support individual learning needs
- Differentiate instruction to meet a range of academic levels and learning styles within a multi-age or small-group setting
- Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL), and collaboration skills into daily instruction
- Observe, document, and assess student growth through portfolios, projects, and narrative feedback rather than relying solely on traditional testing
- Build strong relationships with students and families, maintaining consistent communication and partnership
- Support classroom community by fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience working with middle school-aged children who are forward-thinking, creative and ready-to-go with a great attitude toward learning and growing
- Teaching Certification preferred
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Creativity and enthusiasm for teaching
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based, project-based, or experiential learning approaches
- Comfort teaching in outdoor settings and integrating nature into the curriculum (our creek, our natural spaces)
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work closely with co-teachers
- Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Ability and desire to design and lead engaging, student-centered, hands-on activities (think outdoor learning as well, as we are on a great nature space)
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment

- Background in education, child development, science, or a related field
- Experience with extracurricular programming

This is a full time position (9a-5pm).
We are starting with $20-25/hr and can build from there, depending on experience, and connection with our model and program.
