Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic 1:1 Aide to support a preschool student's inclusion within the group environment of our nature-based program. In this vital role, you will work closely with this child to foster their development, ensure their safety, and promote a positive experience of being in childcare. The 1:1 Aide will implement strategies, determined by teachers and specialists, to meet the assigned child’s developmental and behavioral needs, to enable them to access the Garland School curriculum fully and also attend to their specific needs when they arise. 1:1 aides collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists and the family. This role is perfect for a passionate individual eager to make a lasting impact while developing their skills in early childhood education.
Duties
Responsibilities include:
- Support the child's social-emotional development through positive behavior management
- Learn strategies determined by the child’s team that support their development
- Accompany the assigned child throughout their Garland day and implement the above strategies in all settings
- Support play, engagement in teacher-initiated activities, toileting, rest/nap, and meals
- Communicate with teachers & family daily, and specialists weekly, regarding the child’s experiences, growth and progress
- Participate in whole-school trainings, staff meeting, and team meetings as needed
- Receive guidance from classroom teachers
- Receive supervision from Program Director
- Participate and support elements of Garland School culture and practices such as using a soft tone of voice and gentle manner, emergency evacuation drills, mandated reporting, children and adults dressing in weather-appropriate gear
- If their assigned child is absent, support the needs of the school as directed by the Program Director or Admin Director (staffing or chores)

- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with staff, parents, and specialists
- Physically able to run and carry weight

- Conflict intervention and prevention training
- Familiarity with the Pyramid Model, Early MTSS, Seed & Sew, Nurtured Heart, or other positive behavior support model
