Summary

A Daycare Lead Teacher manages daily classroom operations, develops and implements age-appropriate lesson plans, and ensures a safe, nurturing environment. They are responsible for assessing child development, maintaining regulatory compliance, and facilitating consistent communication with parents. Lead teachers also mentor assistant teachers and maintain orderly, engaging learning spaces. 

Duties

Key Responsibilities

• Curriculum & Instruction: Plan and implement daily, age-appropriate lesson plans that foster social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
• Child Supervision & Safety: Ensure safety by following state licensing rules, health regulations, and proper hygiene/sanitization procedures.
• Assessment & Evaluation: Monitor child development through ongoing observations, portfolio documentation, and parent-teacher conferences.
• Classroom Management: Structure the learning environment to promote independence, positive behavior, and social interaction.
• Parent Communication: Provide daily feedback to parents regarding children's daily activities, development, and needs.
• Supervision: Mentor and direct assistant teachers or volunteers within the classroom. 

Common Performance Tasks

• Conducting daily health checks.
• Replacing diapers/assisting with potty training.
• Leading circle time and engaging in play.
• Maintaining classroom cleanliness. 
• Logging meals, diaper changes and notifying parents of incidents

Requirements

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma
• Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a childcare setting.
• Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are required if infant teacher
• Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, along with patience and creativity.

• Education: Typically a CDA (Child Development Associate), Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a childcare setting.
