Summary
The Lead Teacher is responsible for the general supervision and management of a single classroom (ages 2–5). This role focuses on implementing a "whole-family" educational approach, ensuring that every child’s social-emotional and cognitive needs are met through an inclusive, play-based, and inquiry-driven curriculum.
Duties
- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with Maryland Early Childhood State Standards.
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and a love of learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students, ensuring an inclusive environment for every learner.
- Integrate enrichment activities and collaborate with specialized partners (e.g., yoga, literacy, or nature-based programs) to enhance the student experience.
- Classroom Management & Safety
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that meets all licensing and health department regulations.
- Utilize positive guidance techniques to support social-emotional development and conflict resolution.
- Supervise assistant teachers and volunteers within the classroom, providing mentorship and clear daily direction.
- Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with families through regular communication, conferences, and "whole-family" support initiatives.
- Maintain documentation of child progress and share insights with parents to support growth both in the classroom and at home.
- Participate in community-based events and collaborative efforts with local partners in Montgomery County.
- Professionalism & Administration
- Maintain accurate records for attendance, assessments, and developmental screenings.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, staff meetings, and strategic planning sessions for the growth of Journey Together PreK.
- Uphold the mission and vision of the program, acting as a representative of the school’s commitment to early childhood excellence.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a closely related field. Or CDA in Preschool or Infants and Toddlers.
- Certification: Must meet Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) requirements for Lead Teachers.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a licensed preschool or early childhood setting.
- Skills: * Strong understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-teaching model.
- Requirements: Must pass all required background checks and maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to interact with children on their level (bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor).
- Comfortable supervising outdoor play in various weather conditions.
