Lead Counselor - Summer Camp in Exeter, NH

Summary

The Lead Counselor supports the Program Director in providing a safe, engaging, and well-supervised summer camp experience for children. This role includes direct camp supervision, positive behavior management, staff support, and strict adherence to all Great Bay Kids' policies and New Hampshire Childcare licensing requirements. Lead Counselors are expected to model professionalism, sound judgement, and strong leadership at all times.

Duties

Supervision & Safety

• Maintain active, constant supervision of campers in accordance with NH licensing regulations and required ratios.
• Maintain and file appropriate paperwork for injuries, accidents and incidents.
• Directly manage sign-in and sign-out process to ensure that all students are properly accounted for.
• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children at all times.
• Follow all camp safety procedures, emergency protocols, and incident reporting requirements.
• Conduct regular headcounts and ensure safe transitions between activities and locations.

Program & Camper Experience

• Lead and participate in age-appropriate, engaging camp activities.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful camp environment.
• Support smooth daily camp operations and activity flow.

Behavior Management

• Implement positive, developmentally appropriate behavior guidance consistent with Great Bay Kids' policies and NH licensing standards.
• Set clear expectations and address challenging behaviors calmly and consistently.
• Discuss and work with parents regarding camper behavior concerns.
• Communicate behavior concerns to the Program Director as needed.

Staff Leadership & Professionalism

• Support and mentor counselors
• Model professional conduct, teamwork, and effective communication.
• Serve as a leadership presence when the Program Director is unavailable.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

*Must meet New Hampshire Childcare Licensing requirements for group leader.

*Previous experience working with children in a camp, childcare, or school-age setting.

*Demonstrated leadership and behavior management skills.

*Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

*CPR/First Aid/Water Safety certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to start).

*Completes assigned ProSolutions within 30 days of hire.

*Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.

*Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and participate in physical activities throughout the camp day.
