Summary

Calvary Chapel Christian Academy is seeking a dependable, flexible, and faith-aligned Academy Substitute Teacher to provide classroom coverage for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade as needed. This role is responsible for maintaining a structured, respectful, and productive classroom environment while supporting instructional continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Strong substitutes who demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, classroom leadership, and alignment with the mission of the school will be first considered for future promotions, long-term opportunities, and additional overtime opportunities as they become available. Substitute teachers will also receive teacher training, instructional coaching, and professional support to help them grow in effectiveness and prepare for future opportunities within the academy.

Duties

  • Provide classroom coverage for Kindergarten through 6th grade classrooms as assigned.
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher and maintain continuity of learning throughout the day.
  • Maintain a structured, orderly, and respectful classroom environment that supports student focus, engagement, and appropriate behavior.
  • Supervise students actively at all times and maintain awareness of student safety, behavior, and classroom expectations.
  • Carry out classroom routines, transitions, dismissal procedures, and daily expectations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Follow academy procedures, leadership direction, and teacher instructions consistently.
  • Communicate professionally with students, staff, and leadership and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Leave clear notes for the classroom teacher regarding attendance, lesson completion, student behavior, and any concerns that arise during the day.
  • Arrive on time, remain where assigned, and be fully prepared to support classroom operations throughout the instructional day.
  • Model servant leadership, professionalism, and Christ-like conduct in all interactions with students, families, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Support a positive, respectful, and mission-driven school culture through flexibility, maturity, and reliability.
  • These expectations align with the academy’s established standards for professional conduct, attendance, substitute preparedness, and instructional continuity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred; candidates with relevant teaching experience and demonstrated classroom ability will also be considered.
  • Experience teaching or working with school-age children preferred.
  • Ability to manage a classroom with structure, consistency, and professionalism.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain continuity of instruction across different grade levels.
  • Strong classroom management, organization, communication, and student supervision skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms, grade levels, routines, and teacher expectations.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic, including consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to arrive on time, remain where assigned, and actively supervise and support students throughout the day.
  • Ability to support and uphold the Christian mission of Calvary Chapel Christian Academy and contribute to a Christ-centered environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, supervise students, and remain active throughout the instructional day. These qualifications match the academy’s instructional expectations around professional reliability, communication, and classroom stability.
