Preschool Lead Teacher (Early Childhood / Child Care) in Alexandria, VA

Summary

Bush Hill Day School is a warm, learn through play preschool program for children ages 2-5. We are looking for a nurturing and dependable Lead Teacher to join our team. As a Lead Teacher, you’ll work closely with an Assistant Teacher to create a positive, caring, and well-managed classroom environment where children feel safe, curious, and confident. Our program emphasizes hands-on learning, social-emotional development, and plenty of playground time! Previous preschool teaching experience preferred.

This part-time position runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with flexible scheduling to work 3 or 5 days per week. Availability to work until 2:00 PM on select days is preferred.

Duties

• Create and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans
• Foster a warm, positive, and encouraging atmosphere where children feel safe and excited to learn.
• Collaborate with Assistant Teacher, staff, and parents to support each child's growth and development.
• Communicate effectively with families through in-person interactions, emails, and newsletters, keeping them informed and promoting positive relationships.
• Maintain a structured yet flexible classroom routine that supports social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
• Follow all staff and program guidelines.

Requirements

• Experience working with and/or caring for young children
• Knowledge of children's developmental stages
• A positive attitude
• Patience and empathy in working with young children
• Creativity and the ability to engage children
• Strong communication skills
