Holistic PT-FT Middle School Extra-Curricular Teacher/Mentor (Grades 6-8) - Austin, TX

Reference ID : 177627
Location : Austin, TX
Category : Education/Training
Job Type : Part Time

Description

Summary

Position Overview:

Wholesome Generation is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic Holistic Afternoon/12n-5p Enrichment Teacher to lead engaging extracurricular programs for middle school students (some higher level elementary students are sometimes woven into the lessons due to SEL and academic readiness). Our core group is 12-14 students only.

This role is ideal for an educator who values whole-child development and can design enriching, hands-on experiences that support students’ social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

Our ideal candidate will foster curiosity, encourage experimentation, and promote critical thinking through engaging, multi-disciplinary projects that go beyond the traditional classroom curriculum. This includes planning and executing fun, inquiry-based activities such as STEM, robotics, environmental science, engineering challenges, arts, entrepreneurship, and crafting—all within a safe and supportive environment. Our campus is located on a 5-acre space, with creek bed on site, therapy horses and gardens, and we'd love to involve our students in co-creating fun and inspiring learning stations that empower them to build on their skills and creative thinking.

This position works collaboratively with our core academic teacher (who leads our morning academic instruction) and reports to our Executive Director.

We are building this position for a 20-25 hrs/week, however, this might easily expand to a full-time position over the next months. We are experiencing a heavy demand and so we are hiring an additional team member to support our core-teacher.

Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, and lead specialized after-school enrichment programs across multiple disciplines (STEM, arts, entrepreneurship, crafting, etc.)
  • Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that promote creativity, exploration, and problem-solving
  • Collaborate with the morning academic teacher to ensure continuity in student support and development
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for students of diverse backgrounds (note: our students are positive, empowered and ready-to-learn students, who are looking to master their skills and most of them already have worked on HS level activities for the majority of their MS years)
  • Supervise students during program hours, ensuring their well-being and active participation
  • Develop age-appropriate, engaging lesson plans and interactive activities
  • Manage and maintain program materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to parents and guardians
  • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging confidence, collaboration, and curiosity
  • Enforce safety protocols and organizational policies at all times ~ work closely with parents for transitional notes and progress (and portfolios).

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with middle school-aged children (one class of 12-14 students) who are forward-thinking, creative and ready-to-go with great attitude toward learning and growing
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for teaching a variety of subjects (STEM, science, arts, entrepreneurship, etc.)
  • Ability to design and lead engaging, student-centered, hands-on activities (think building in our gardens, by our bees, working with them to woodwork, or create art and more--our students LOVE science and exploration with materials)
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
