Summary
The Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents. Teacher Assistant are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities that will help them develop spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.
Duties
- Assist and work together with supervisors, lead teachers, and co-workers to provide an environment in which children are safe, happy, and comfortable.
- Understand basic and individual needs of children and respond and interact appropriately
- Overall management and supervision of the group of children to which assigned
- Carry out discipline in accordance with the center’s policy
- Implement and supervise a variety of developmentally appropriate activities in accordance with the policies and mission of the center
- Teach and practice good personal hygiene
- Serve meals and snacks in accordance with the center’s policies
- Provide a safe, clean, and orderly environment for children
- Understand and be able to implement emergency procedures
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings
- Collaborate with other staff and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of the program.
- Participate in at least sixteen hours of training on an annual basis that is related to the appropriate age group
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding children, families, and co-workers.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Six months of experience working with groups of children
- Well developed people skills
- Ability to communicate well with children, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and emergency personnel
- High energy.
- An understanding of child development.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
- Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
