Summary

The Garland School is seeking an after care teacher  to work in our Waldorf-inspired, nature-based program starting IMMEDIATELY.  This is a great opportunity for someone seeking an introduction to Waldorf-inspired work with young children, and/or working with children outdoors in all weather. The After Care Teacher will work alongside a Co-Teacher and be supervised by the Program Director.  


This teacher will work with children ages 1 - 6 in a multiage group. Teachers should be prepared to be outside in all weather, including eating some meals outside.  

Duties


Our teachers are invited to design an environment that speaks to their interests, strengths and vision of early childhood education. The After Care Teacher will be expected to support the classroom and provide after school care with attention to the emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child.  This teacher will supervise children during after care hours, as well as complete any regularly-scheduled chores that need to happen during that time. When possible, the teacher will engage the children in helping with the meaningful work of chores.

  • Maintain a safe fun environment for the Afterschool program
  • Serve and supervise children after care snack 
  • Diaper changes for those in diapers 
  • Prepare children for pickup 
  • Greet parent/caregivers picking children up and convey any messages from teachers
  • Chores to close the school
  • Log late pickups

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years of prior experience with young children (including toddlers)
  • 3 college credits in human development or education, Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals, Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate (or completion of one of these within 12 months of employment)
  • 3 references from past work experience, including with young children
  • Team player; enthusiastic about working with other adults and taking care of children and the school environment.
