Summary

Position Summary:

We are seeking loving and professional teachers to join our community. The half-day program teacher supports their cooperative teacher and the director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. This is a part-time position M-F from 8:30am -12:30pm, 12 months a year. Teachers must communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the co-staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the cooperative teacher observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teachers are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs along with the cooperating teacher.


Tenney Preschool and Childcare Summary:

Serving children ages 2-5, TPC is a play-based preschool with a backbone of community care. We follow the Emergent Curriculum, which follows the child's interests and builds curriculum around those interests. Our focus is on developing the social and emotional skills to support each child where they are at. Tenney is also a family-focused environment, so parents are unusually involved in the operations and management of the school. Some parents even work in the classroom under the direction of a teacher. Tenney is licensed by the state of Wisconsin, accredited by the city of Madison, and holds a five-star rating on Youngstar. Duties

  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with families through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements


  • Associate degree or higher in early childhood education -or- Lead Teaching credentials.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and families) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
  • Must complete Mandatory Reporter & Abusive Head Trauma Training prior to start date.
  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
  • A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
