The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

 About Us: Learning Adventure is a licensed 5-Star progressive prek, childcare, and afterschool program serving children ages 3-10 years. Learning Adventure's purpose is to provide high-quality care, education, and nurturing for preschool and school-age children. Our focus is to embrace individual and family strengths as we partner together with families to create an environment that is safe and stimulating. By utilizing the strengths of each person (families, children, and staff), we build confidence and motivate children and families to grow and develop in a manner that is unique and appropriate to the individual and the family. We have had a fruitful collaboration with the Grand Isle School District for more than 27 years as a partner site for children with diverse abilities to receive direct services from school special educators, speech pathologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. We have the rare and unique benefit of a small team of 4 women who have poured their hearts into the program for more than 15 years, providing excellent early care and education for the island communities and beyond, and creating a warm working environment where everyone has the opportunity to excel through coaching, on-going professional development, and on their own merit.

The Position: You will help distinguish our program with professionalism, with knowledge of best practice and child development, with the dedication to on-going professional growth and support for families, and through a commitment to embrace the joys and challenges of early care and education. Among responsibilities, you will work with our team to *Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum based on a sound knowledge of child development and understanding of individual needs *Include, support and guide families to be active participants in their child’s growth and development *Seek and participate in professional development opportunities for professional growth and as an effort to advance the field of early education as a profession *Support and utilize the strengths of every person on the team as a means to provide the best care and education for children and to create the best opportunities for professional experience *Establish yourself as a team player who successfully collaborates with other programs and agencies *Learn and practice the skills of leadership and self-reflection About You: The ideal candidate will: *Have, or will have by June 2020, a valid Vermont Early Childhood teacher’s license *Have, or will have by June 2020, Infant CPR and First Aid certification *Two years on the job experience, preferably in a licensed center *Be available for at least 25 hours each week through June 2020 *Be available for at least 35 hours each week beginning September 2020 *Have an interest in learning about Directorship with the potential for ownership in the business within 2-5 years Location: Learning Adventure is the only licensed center in picturesque Grand Isle, just 25 minutes from Burlington or St. Albans. Located in a residential area, we capitalize on the open space and beauty of Vermont. We are well known in our small community and provided a warm welcome from several area businesses as we expose the children to their community in addition to the use of area parks, walking trails, and bodies of water.   • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.


  • Minimum of 2 years of professional child care experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
  • Associate’s Degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 Credits in ECE.
  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
  • A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
