We have a fantastic opportunity for a full-time, floating assistant teacher at the Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center at NHTI's child development center. As a laboratory school, the Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center is a demonstration setting for best practices in early childhood education, with student teachers working alongside staff in classrooms. There is excellent potential for growth within a multi-site organization dedicated to professional development and training. The center serves children from 6 weeks to kindergarten.

The Assistant Teacher position is responsible for upholding and implementing the BGCCNH mission, supporting children and teachers, and ensuring the health and safety of the children. Some key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: actively engaging with children, assisting with cleaning and organizing the classroom, and assisting teachers with child observations. Must present interest in and willingness to learn child development and health and safety practices. 

Duties

Prepare Youth for Success

  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
  • Responds sensitively to the interests, requests, and needs of individual children, interacts positively with children, encourages exploration, and uses positive child guidance strategies.
  • Assists with the implementation of curriculum-adapting activities to meet the individual needs of young children and their families.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to Club members.
  • Supports program goals to ensure the health and safety of all members.
  • May be asked to track outcome metrics; verify that programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  • Responsible for recording child observation notes so that a Lead/Associate Teacher can use them as a tool for curriculum planning.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate and up-to-date member records.
  • Continuously accounts for the members in their assigned group by name and face.
  • Must follow all NAEYC standards and GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, as well as BGCCNH and CCLU rules and policies regarding safety, compliance, and best practices.
  •  May be asked to assist with dispensing medications according to company policy, and administering first aid as needed; communicates all occurrences to families. 
  • Assists in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining classroom well-being and upkeep.  


Program Development and Implementation

  • Assists teachers in recognizing and recording children’s progress.
  • Assists with the documentation needed in the classroom, including, but not limited to, behavioral observation records, accident reports, and communication with families.
  • Must be willing to accept feedback, and apply it to practice.
  • Facilitates open and effective, professional verbal and written communication with families, staff, and children.
  • Responsible for observing classroom staff, students, and volunteers to ensure that best practices are followed. Communicate with a Center Director/supervisor any concerns.
  • Supports volunteers and practicum students through modeling techniques and strategies that connect theory to practice.
  • May increase the visibility of Club programs by sharing daily progress and activities with families via Class Dojo or in person.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, families, students, and supervisors to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Responsible for the development of frequent communication with families.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents, and others to assist in resolving problems when required.


Requirements

•   Must be at least 16 years of age, and work with children only under direct supervision and observation of a staff person. 

•   Some knowledge of child development and the latest educational theories and practices.

•   Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behavior guidance

• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

•   Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions needed to provide proper assistance assigned by the teachers or supervisors.

•   Ability to communicate with staff, families, and community members in a variety of methods.

•   Must be willing to maintain the Club dress code appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities.

•  Ability to assist in the planning of programming and implementing quality programs; proven track of having creative and artistic teaching abilities.

•   Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications to meet Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.  

•   Expected to assist in cleaning and organizing the Club.

•   Must be willing to travel between locations on occasion, when requested.

•   Must maintain confidentiality.


ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

•All of the candidates who are offered a job with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire will have to submit for an FBI fingerprint background check and submit to a background check through the State of NH Criminal Records Dept. and FirstAdvantage. Note: The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may prohibit you from being employed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire should there be a disqualifying finding on your criminal record. In addition, even if the State of NH reviews your records and allows you to work at the Club, we still reserve the right to determine your employment status.
