Summary
Ascension Episcopal Day School serves the community by providing a nurturing, stimulating and supportive Christian educational environment for children ages 6 weeks thru 5 years. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for creating a nurturing, innovative, collaborative, and supportive learning community for 12 children ages 12-24 months. The Lead Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day management of one classroom and the supervision of 2 Assistant Teachers and 1 Afternoon assistant. This is a 12-month professional position. Work hours are 7:20 am to 3:20 pm.
Duties
Responsibilities Include:
- Creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating classroom environment conducive to the cognitive, physical, social, spiritual, and emotional development of young children ages 12-24 months.
- Meeting the basic care needs of the children in your care including diapering, toilet training, feeding, sleeping, and health and safety needs.
- Developing curriculum and lesson plans that encourage curiosity, reflection, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children in you care.
- Modeling developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Selecting supplies, equipment, and other instructional materials appropriate for the classroom environment.
- Working cooperatively and effectively as a team leader by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis to the Director, your classroom staff, and teachers in other classrooms.
- Attending staff meetings, including meeting with your classroom staff on a regular basis.
- Mentoring and providing leadership for all staff members by maintaining and upholding all school policies and standards for education, behavior, and professionalism.
- Maintaining a chain of command in your classroom throughout the entire school day.
- Participating in staff development and training opportunities.
- Maintaining open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ascension Day School is an educational center and not a daycare. We require Lead Teachers to maintain a high-quality learning environment. The successful candidate will have, at minimum:
- A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field.
- 2 years teaching experience in an early education center.
- Advanced knowledge of early education instructional design and teaching methods.
- Advanced knowledge of child mental, cognitive, and physical development.
- Supervisory and leadership experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
