Summary


The substitute is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in the implementation of the daily lesson plan and schedule. Ensure the welfare, health, and safety of all children through direct supervision. Including following established rules and policies regarding safety and discipline. The substitute supports the teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the substitute observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to staff and in appropriate time to parents. Substitutes are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the teacher and the Director.


Duties

  • Engage and interact with children while maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere.
  • Ask questions, get involved in the classroom practice's, encourage and maintain conversations w/ children.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.
  • Work with other teachers and collaborate on curriculum.
  • Have excellent organizational skills.
  • Possess excellent communication skills with parents, coworkers and children.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds, sit on the floor for interaction with children, be active on the playground, and be outside in hot and cold temperatures. 

Requirements

  • Participate in a criminal background/fingerprint check.
  • Medical or physical examination with a record of Mantoux results
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous childcare experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
