Childcare Program Leader

Part time position with before and after school program. Pay starts at $18/hr. Typical hours are 6am-8:30am and 3pm-6:30pm.

Job Description:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Duties

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Implements and plans curriculum within the established guidelines.

2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

3. Supervises and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Motivates staff to achieve goals.

4. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards

5. Supports YMCA healthy eating and physical activities standards through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality

6. Supports YMCA healthy eating and physical activity standards.

7. Cultivates positive relationships, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.

8. Maintains program site and equipment.

9. Maintains required program records.

10. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state licensing requirements.

2.. At least 16 years of age.

3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, licensing required trainings and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

4. Ability to implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

5. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships

with people from different backgrounds.

6. Completes Presidium within 7 days of hire date.

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

2. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

3. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.

4. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.

5. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.

6. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

7. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

8. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency

9. Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.


Three months of programmatic experience and one of the education backgrounds listed below preferred.

a. One year early childhood certification from a college or university consists of at least 30 semester hours.

b. A child development credential by an organization listed in 63.2-1738 Code of Virginia

c. A teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization.

d. Have six months of supervisory programmatic experience.
