Summary
Ascension Episcopal Day School is currently accepting applications for Substitute Teachers. Work hours are flexible between 7:30am up to 6:00 pm, depending on need.
Ascension Day School serves pre-school children ages 6 weeks thru 5 years. Our program is designed to cultivate the cognitive, social, physical, creative, and emotional development of each child. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for assisting classrooms in creating a nurturing, creative, collaborative and supportive learning community for 8-14 children. Pay is $15 per hour. This is an hourly, as-needed position. Hours of operation are 7:30-5:30 with end-of-the-day cleaning duties up to 6:00.
Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating classroom environment.
- Follow staff policies in order to ensure healthy and safe practices with the children, including participating actively in the general health and care routines of the children and classroom environment.
- Cleaning rooms, taking out trash, cleaning/sterilizing classroom floors, toys, tables and other surfaces including at the end of the day after the students have left.
- Assist in the implementation of curriculum conductive to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of young children ages 6 weeks - 5 years of age.
- Actively engage students in activities, explorations, and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, decision-making, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children in your care.
- Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques utilizing the 101 Principles of Positive Guidance.
- Assist in recording daily records for the classroom, and student head counts throughout the day.
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis and attending staff meetings.
- Participate in staff development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current child development practices.
- Consistently maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each child's family, including actively greeting/interacting with each parent and student every day in a friendly manner upon arrival and/or at departure.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate should hold at minimum a High School Diploma, and have experience in a child care setting. Candidates should also have some knowledge of early education teaching methods, child development theory, and have effective oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work with diverse populations. Professionalism, the ability to work well in teams, and reliability are required. This job does not have regular hours and is ideal for a person with a flexible schedule looking for part-time employment.
