Summary

Clemson Child Development Center is in search of Part-Time and Full-Time Teacher Assistants/Floaters to move between classroom situations as needed. Perfect entry level position for anyone interested in childcare or enrolled in early childhood education classes at a higher learning institution. This teacher assistant will aid classroom teachers in providing a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social/emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive development. The Teacher Assistant Floater will move between different classrooms based on the daily needs of the center, including substitute needs for additional hours.

Clemson Child Development Center was founded over 50 years ago as a non-profit childcare facility with the mission to serve all children in the Clemson area with affordable, high-quality childcare and a preschool education in a diverse learning environment. The tradition of excellence continues with an A+ ABC Quality Rating and the First Steps 4-K Program taught at CCDC.  Our teachers foster learning and development through creative, cognitive, social and physical activities appropriate for each age group. We are a full-service childcare center providing care and meals for children six weeks through five years old.

Duties

  • Adhere to the ABC Quality Standards.
  • Follow all employer policies and procedures at all times.
  • Learn the routines and children of each classroom.
  • Assist the classroom Teachers with monitoring children to ensure that they play and interact with one another in a safe and appropriate manner. 
  • Assist in fostering an environment of learning through activities and active play.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedures.
  • Assist in the operation of the classroom in compliance with state and federal guidelines such as SC DSS, DHEC and USDA. 
  • Perform daily cleaning routines to protect furnishings and keep classroom orderly and safe.
  • Participate in outdoor classroom activities
  • Assist with meal and snack preparation, feeding of bottles, nap time, diapering, potty training, and laundry.
  • Assist teachers and staff with special projects.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, administration, and fellow teaching staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Associate Degree in early childhood education or related field of study.
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification (will provide if not yet achieved)
  • Completion of 15 hours of Health and Safety Training or ECD 101 (will provide if not yet achieved)
  • Register on SC Endeavors and Register on SC Endeavors Career Ladder
  • Highly flexible and willing to change direction when needed
  • Familiarity with children of all age groups
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must clear full background check per SC DSS requirements
  • Must pass health screening per SC DSS requirements
  • Must be able to see and/or hear a child in distress up to 25 feet away.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs repeatedly during the course of each day.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor with children and be able to get up quickly.
  • Must be able to lift babies in and out of cribs.
