Summary

Scope & Purpose of Position:

Responsible for developing and implementing the curriculum goals and standards for the classroom, as well as provide mentorship to any additional teachers in the designated classroom. This position will be accountable to the overall classroom quality.

Duties

  • Lead and implement classroom instruction within an assigned classroom.
  • Support the development of classroom daily schedules (classroom experiences and staff schedules).
  • Ensure all children receive enriching educational programming with a focus on positive experiences and child outcomes. This consists of the frequent informal and formal assessment of all aspects of educational programming, including but not limited to classroom environment and management; curricular planning, implementation, and assessment; individualization; family-centered practices; and educational resource provisions (e.g. support professionals, enrichment programming, and field trips).
  • Know, articulate, and remain current of best practices in professional development, early childhood education, etc.
  • Understand and is mindful of how personal appearances, dress, use of body language, and the voice tone impact the presentation, the environment, and how staff, children, and families engage.
  • Work in conjunction with program teaching staff and the administration to ensure adequate supplies, equipment, and resources are available.
  • Assist the administrative staff in the development and oversight of the quality rating system for the academy to ensure the obtainment and maintenance of the highest quality credentialing.
  • Oversee educational environment and programming.
  • Provide necessary curriculum documents and resources.
  • Review, provide feedback, and assess classroom and other educational environments.
  • Review, provide feedback, and observe planned experiences for the children.
  • Provide necessary child and curricular assessment documents and resources.
  • Review, provide feedback, and assist teaching staff in the reflection of curricular, environmental, and child assessments (formal as well as informal).
  • Assist teaching staff in the provision of individualized programming and differentiated instruction.
  • Focus on and understand the creation and orientation of children to an appropriate learning environment; which includes preparing the room, greeting children, engaging children in cooperative learning, and addressing the learners' social, emotional and comfort needs.
  • Create a positive and encouraging climate of diversity for ideas, questions, and learning.
  • Oversee classroom transition processes for all enrolled children and families including transition into the classroom upon enrollment, transition to and from different classrooms within the program, and transition out of the program for exiting children and families.
  • Oversees the Program "response to intervention", ensuring successful outcomes for all children and families who experience our programs.
  • Facilitate academy meetings regarding Intervention Services.
  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of intervention protocols within the classrooms.
  • Train staff on referral process.
  • Assist teaching staff and families in the implementation of identified strategies for individualized
  • Promote the importance of a positive behavior support system within the academy and the classrooms.
  • Report referrals to Center Director.

Requirements

      Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with at least two years of experience, preferably in a Reggio Emilia Inspired Program

      At least three years of teaching experience in an early childhood education setting

      Knowledge of State Department of Education educational standards and best practices

      Experience in working with diverse cultures

      Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.

Nice To Haves

At least two years of experience in Early Childhood, preferably in a Reggio Emilia Inspired Program. At least two years experience in a School Readiness program.
