Full time Classroom Assistant is needed to serve infants, toddlers and children with and without disabilities. This is a semi-professional position assisting the teacher in a classroom setting. The Assistant is responsible for supervised sessions of instruction of children as well as supporting the lead the teacher in daily functions. Full time (40 hours) work guaranteed. Program Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The schedule is negotiable
Knowledge of the techniques involved in supervising and interacting with infants and/or children individually or as part of a classroom.
Ability to use good English, spelling and simple arithmetic. Good communication, both orally and written are required.
Ability to learn assigned tasks quickly. Ability to conform to prescribed routines and to develop schedules in the operation and minor preventative maintenance of common education materials and equipment.
Ability to interact tactfully with a wide variety of children, families and co-workers.
Ability to learn effective use of techniques for establishing and maintaining constructive relationships with young children.
Knowledge or ability to learn infant & child development stages, behaviors, and activities.
Ability to lift or assist to lift children weighing up to 75 pounds. Picking up and carrying young children is required. These tasks require bending, lifting, squatting, stretching, kneeling, and routine time spend sitting, lying, and working on the floor or in child size chairs. Moving from a standing to squatting, sitting, or lying position will occur multiple times daily.
Knowledge, understanding, and practice of universal precautions is expected. Recognition of safety, health, sanitation issues is expected with plans or preventative measures put into place.
Requirement of non-smoking (NO second hand smoke detectable) and absence of other strong odors is critical to this position.
Ability to understand and implement basic principles of positive behavior modification. Thorough understanding that NO physical discipline or punishment is ever allowed. No verbal abuse including harshness, cursing, yelling, or talking "about" a child is permitted.
Adherence to all DCO policies and procedures, licensing rules and regulations is required.
