Summary


BUS DRIVER – NEKCA has an immediate opening for a Bus Driver for the Lyndonville Head Start / Early Head Start Program. This is a full-time (30 hrs. wk./42 wks.yr.) position with benefits. The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting children to and from the center 5 days per week, ensuring the safety of all passengers. Must comply with Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards as well as the highway traffic safety laws of the State of Vermont.

Duties


Duties Include:

·        Transport children to and from the center

·        Transport children to and from field trip locations, on an as needed basis

·        Ensure that there is an additional adult on the bus when transporting children

·        Recruit and train Bus Monitor

·        Enforce established rules and guidelines as defined in local, state and federal regulations

·        Complete Daily Attendance Sheets

·        Keep bus in safe operating condition

·        Deliver bus to garage for repair, warranty or maintenance work

·        Keep bus clean and orderly, inside and out, on a daily basis

·        Serve as a liaison between all staff and families by documenting and communicating observations of children and delivering messages and notices as necessary

·        Complete a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection report

·        Turn in all gasoline receipts and repair bills to Center Manager for processing

·        Treat passengers with respect and courtesy

·        Participate in ongoing training to further develop skills as a professional driver and maintain school bus certification

·        Work cooperatively with staff to plan and implement passenger and pedestrian safety training within 30 days of start of program year

·        Conduct 3 evacuation drills yearly; the first being within 30 days of start of program year


Requirements


Minimum Requirements Include:

•            Must be at least 25 years of age

•            Hold a valid Vermont Operator’s License

•            Hold a current CDL “Class C” Type 1 License with School Bus Endorsement

•            Have an excellent driving record

•            Ability to maintain confidentiality

•            Relate well to children and families and understand basic early childhood

•            Hold a current Infant/Child CPR/First Aid certification or be willing to obtain an Infant/Child

CPR/First Aid certification

•            Pass a medical examination before commencing duties

•            Participate in annual training in accordance with Head Start Regulations
