Our bus driver is responsible for providing transportation for enrolled children in our 14 passenger bus. Our driver performs skilled work involved in the operation of a motor vehicle and is responsible for the safety and conduct of the children who are passengers. Communication skills in dealing with teacher, parents and children is required to maintain a relationship of mutual collaboration to meet the needs of each transported child.
The bus driver operates a school bus with a maximum capacity of 14 passengers according to the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the policies of The Alexander School of Early Learning. The bus driver operates the school bus under a variety of road conditions, maintains accurate and legible records of daily bus logs and other required documents, maintains an accurate count of all children in care and only releases children to authorized custodians, establishes and maintains effective and cooperative communication with students, parents, school staff and supervisors, supervises students during assigned times of responsibility and maintains control of passengers as related to safety, participates regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs and trainings, drives school bus on all scheduled routes to and from school as well as all field trips and approved activities, inspects, cleans and requests maintenance service for the school bus and related equipment, reports unsafe acts of conditions which required the attention of any person other than the driver, reads and interprets maps and street guides.

-Current driver's license
-Driving record with...
(1) no more than one moving violation in any one year with no more than two violations in the last three years
(2) no more than one at-fault accident in the last three years
(3) no more than one administrative suspension in the last two years
(4) no major violations in the last five years (i.e., reckless driving, DWI, speeding 20 MPH over speed limit)
-At least 3 years of driving experience
-Between 23 and 69 years of age
-Six months of experience in a group care setting
-Must be First Aid and CPR Certified
