The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the lead teacher and director in daily activities that promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of all children enrolled in the program. Perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Serve in a position for which a teacher has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.
Assists teacher in implementing and organizing developmentally appropriate activities
Assists teacher in maintain a clean and organized classroom
Supervises children during indoor and outdoor activities to ensure safety
Maintains sight and sound supervision of children at all times
Maintains working knowledge of state child care licensing standards
Maintains personal professional development plan to ensure continual quality improvement
Attends staff meetings
Performs other job related tasks as requested by supervisor
The daily cleaning of center/classrooms (i.e. sweeping, mopping, etc.) is the responsibility of all Covesville Child Development Center staff.
May be asked to participate in center fundraisers
High School graduate or GED preferred, but not required
Experience working with young children in a group setting preferred
Demonstrates genuine interest in working with young children
Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in a setting that changes and/or has constant interruptions
Effective communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to work with other staff members as a team
Ability to analyze issues and use sound judgement
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
Ability to work in an active environment that require standing for long periods of time, stooping, squatting, and running.
State and Federal Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training required
First Aid training required
Fingerprinting, TB test, criminal record/background checks, and child protective services checks are to be completed prior to commencement of employment.
Must meet requirements of Virginia Department of Social Services Division of Licensing which includes completing a specific number of hours of annual training
Insurance included after 90 day probationary period.
