Summary


 

Falls Church-McLean Children's Center (FCMLCC) has an opening in our preschool program. FCMLCC provides a comprehensive, high-quality, early childhood program designed to give all young children, regardless of their family's economic resources, a strong foundation on which to build the rest of their lives. The ideal candidate is an experienced early childhood teacher with educational vision, a natural ability to engage and support young learners, proven classroom management skills, strong interpersonal relations skills, excellent oral and written communication and computer skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and families. Prior teaching experience in a NAEYC accredited program is valuable.


CDA, Early Childhood Development Career Studies Certificate or degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related fields with a minimum of 12 credits completed in Early Childhood Education preferred. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Credentials will be reviewed as they are received. 


Duties

Duties include planning and implementing a high-quality curriculum that is child-centered, developmentally appropriate, open-ended and process-oriented.  Teachers manage the classroom effectively with compassion, high energy, attention to detail, and problem-solving strategies.  Teachers develop an engaging environment (classroom, outdoor play area, and field trips) that encourages children's independence and self-selection of activities and supports children's ideas, initiatives, and creativity. Teachers provide ongoing assessments, develop individual goals for children and facilitate transition into kindergarten. Regular communication with parents by means of meetings, newsletters, phone calls, digital communication, and individual parent conferences. 


Requirements

  • Willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Previous experience in childcare
  • Comfortable using technology in various ways such as emails, apps, and curriculum software
  • Passionate about working with diverse children in an inclusive environment
  • Ability to build rapport with children
  • Positive and patient demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Co-teach children 2-4 years old in a play-based environment with low teacher-student ratios following the Creative Curriculum.
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment
  • Observe and document children using Teaching Strategies Gold
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-teachers, administration, students, and parents
  • Communicate with parents on students' growth and progress
  • Maintain the health and safety of all students
  • Schedule may vary but typical hours are 9:45 am-6:15 pm or 8:00 to 4:30 with one hour for lunch. Thirty minutes of your lunch is paid for by the center.
