Summary

Country Day School has an opening for a part-time facilities manager. The role involves day-to-day operations of the physical facilities and nine playgrounds with a wide variety of services including maintenance, environmental compliance, preventative maintenance, repairs renewal and replacement, grounds keeping, fire safety, and logistical support for campus events. This role involves working closely with the Head of School. 


The ideal candidate is a positive, innovative, approachable, and forward-thinking individual with patience and good communication skills. The individual needs to have a minimum of a high school diploma and three years of facilities operational experience or related “handyman” experience. The position is part-time with a minimum of 20 hours per week, benefits and flexible schedule.

 

The Country Day School is a NAEYC accredited independent school that offers developmentally appropriate educational programs and summer camp for up to 275 young children from 2 through 6 years old. The campus is comprised of 3 buildings on approximately four wooded acres with nine playgrounds, a butterfly garden, nature trail, a nature room, art studio, and a library in McLean, VA.

Duties

Responsibilities:  

  • Work with the Head of School for facilities related concerns 
  • Collaborate with the Head of School to plan annual maintenance budgets and regularly review expenditures.  
  • Manage facility-related vendors with the Head of School  
  • Provide a high level of customer service to all employees, students, parents, visitors, alumni, and friends of Country Day school.  
  • At all times, supports the school's mission by modeling kindness, confidence, and preparation 
  • Ensure regular maintenance, upkeep, and preventative maintenance of all school facilities and playgrounds (i.e. cleaning gutters, changing light bulbs, touch-up painting, monthly check of emergency lights, sweeping/blow walkways, light pruning, watering plantings as needed, fixing playground equipment, etc.) that offer students and faculty/staff the best possible atmosphere for meaningful instruction and learning  
  • Strong knowledge of buildings and grounds systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical workings, septic systems are a plus  
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, working efficiently within time constraints and deadlines 
  • Manage facilities-related logistics for campus events and rentals  
  • Provide traffic safety monitoring for arrival and dismissal, as needed  
  • Oversee the testing for the fire alarm system and maintenance  
  • Must be available to be on campus on short notice, for emergencies and other unforeseen facility needs, within reason  
  • Ability to walk, stand, maintain balance, climb ladders, crouch, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs., bend stoop, and reach above shoulder level 
  • Ability to withstand indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including dirt, dust, pollen odors, sun, wetness, rain, fumes, temperatures, noise, or machinery vibrations.
