Under the direction of the Director, the Food and Nutrition Servicer will have the responsibility of providing and/or serving breakfast, lunch and snacks for children enrolled in University of Little Scholars. Assist with planning weekly menus and develops shopping lists for the agency. Organizes and cleans the kitchen immediately after usage according to health department standards. Maintain nutritional requirements as identified by the supervisor.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands, hands to finger, and feet. Occasionally, the employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision.


  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean environment
  • Assist in preparation of menu items and prepare cafeteria service area
  • Serve students and staff from the cafeteria service area
  • Clean worktables, floors, refrigerators, microwave, counters and equipment (according to established procedures)
  • Responsible for knowing and following the safety rules and proper procedures associated with Our Daily Bread and Department of Human Service (DHS) guidelines.
  • Follow proper personal hygiene procedures that are necessary for the safe and sanitary handling of food (i.e. wearing gloves and hair nets)
  • Ability to perform measurements necessary in cooking for large groups.
  • Ability to relate to and work effectively with staff and young children
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to many varied situations.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate and professional behavior at all times.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple interruptions and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Ensure the Cafeteria Checklist is completed daily.
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Two (2) years of cooking experience in a large group setting with thorough knowledge of kitchen equipment operations preferred
  • Experience working with children from birth to twelve (12) years of age.
  • Ability to follow through on given directives in a timely manner.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse groups.
  • Must be flexible, have good time management skills, and be able to fill in where needed.
  • Ability to have a positive relationship with children, staff and others from diverse backgrounds, including children with special needs. *
  • *Ability to work effectively and positively with parents to improve the quality of life of their children.
  • Possess an attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Possess a commitment to continued education to include regularly participating in workshops, conferences, training sessions, etc.
  • Ability to provide a continuum of care to children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
