The After School Teacher (AST) is responsible for providing children with a safe and healthy learning environment. It is the AST’s responsibility to assist in providing a well-run, goal directed, and professional program that supports the kids’ personal and academic growth. It is the responsibility of the AST to develop and implement daily schedules that include structured activities and daily homework support, and effectively manage the classroom.
Pick up children at local elementary schools in the company's van (on pre-assigned route and schedule). Follow all traffic safety laws and follow the specific requirements for each school’s pickup process.
Hold or be willing to attain a current age-appropriate CPR/First Aid Certification. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as needed in daily activities and emergency situations. AST must be willing to interact with and oversee the children at indoor and outdoor activities as the program requires. Work assigned hours. Punctual. Have an exceptionally warm, friendly personality and exceptional customer service skills that include tact, patience, empathy, honesty, and kindness. Enjoy interacting with children and their families and has the ability to keep children engaged throughout the duration of after-school time. Excellent organizational, classroom management, and time management skills. Have the ability to handle confidential information, listen attentively, be mentally and verbally agile, and use strong, effective communication. Must be able to work with staff, children and families from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must be a self-motivated, creative, and innovative professional with the ability to solve problems with creativity and civility. Have the ability to manage daily tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while paying close attention to details. Be available Monday through Friday between 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm and occasionally earlier in the day for fields trips when children are out of school. Must be available for mandatory monthly staff meetings.
All selected candidates are required to successfully complete a criminal background check.
As Van Driver, the AST must:
-Be 25 years of age or older
-Hold a valid driver's license and have an excellent driving record.
-Stay current with all licensing and company policies and procedures.
-Have good written and verbal communication skills.
-Demonstrate the ability to assume primary responsibility for developing a schedule, structured activities, and provide guidance and homework assistance for school-aged children.
Credentials and Experience:
Valid driver's license and willing to drive a 16-passenger van. Must be at least 25 years of age (for insurance purposes) and have at least a high school diploma or GED. At least one year experience in a childcare setting working directly with school-age children. Candidates with a CDA, TCC, or TCD are preferred.

Report to Site and/or Project Directors. Work closely with other members of the DayStar Team.
Reliability, accuracy, and thoroughness of work performed will all be primary measures. Additional measures include interaction with team members, the students and their families; particularly important is building trust with the children and families in our program.
Experience as a camp counselor or after-school program teacher is preferred
