The Plymouth Schoolhouse is a 4 STAR accredited Early Child Care Center, serving children 18 months to 12 years old and their families in Plymouth, Vermont. The Program has been in operation for the last four summers. Our emergent curriculum recognizes the importance of play and strives to create connections with the natural world and the community in which we live. Teachers plan curriculum based on the demonstrated interests of children and the belief that children actively engage in the construction of their own knowledge. The classroom is set up to be a teacher in itself and values natural light, green plants, quality materials and toys and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The Plymouth Schoolhouse will be shifting into an Infant/Toddler childcare later this summer, accepting children as young as 3 months old by the Fall, and operating year round. New furniture has been purchased and the space will be rearranged to accommodate the young children of our town. The Executive Director and the Program Director/ Classroom Teacher will work closely to support the families that The Plymouth Schoolhouse serves.
The Program Director/Classroom Teacher is responsible for coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.
