The Head Start Teacher's Assistant helps the Teacher in planning, organizing and supervising the children's daily classroom activities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Head Start Teacher.

Assists the Teacher in planning individual and group learning experiences, indoor play activities, field trips, music and art, hygiene and nutrition programs; organizes materials needed for classroom activities; assists the teacher in enrollment and attendance record keeping and reporting duties; participates in parent meetings and works with parent volunteers in the classroom; provides clerical assistance to the teacher; maintains center cleanliness and order; attends staff meetings, training sessions. Some food service is also a part of the job. Good knowledge of preschool children's mental, emotional, and social development; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Some food service will be included in this role.


  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to the pre-school center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Follow all Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.


  • Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or Early Childhood Associate Degree, or willing to complete a CDA upon hire.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience.
  • High energy.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification or be willing to complete upon hire.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
  • All applicants must hold a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
  • All applicants must be vaccinated for COVID-19 or be willing to be tested weekly.
