Summary

Ascension Episcopal Day School is accepting applications for a full time Primary Assistant Teacher in our Preschool Two's Classroom. Work hours are currently 7:45-5:15 with an 1 1/2 hour lunch break. This job comes with 6 days each of paid vacation and sick leave. The Primary Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, creative, collaborative and supportive learning community for 14 children aged 2 year. Minimum wage will be $15 per hour.

Duties

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

        Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating classroom environment.

        Follow staff policies and procedures in order to ensure healthy and safe practices with the children.

        Participate actively in the general health and care routines of the children and classroom environment by lifting children weighing up to 30 pounds to the height of a changing table, changing diapers and cleaning noses, washing children's and your own hands, taking out trash, cleaning/sterilizing classroom floors, toys, tables and other surfaces throughout the day.

        Assist in the creation and implementation of curriculum conductive to the cognitive, physical, social, creative, and emotional development of young children ages 12 - 24 months.

        Actively engage students in activities, explorations, and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, decision-making, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children in your care.

        Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques utilizing the 101 Principles of Positive Guidance.

        Assist in the maintenance of attendance and childcare records for the classroom.

        Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis and attending staff meetings.

        Participate in staff development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current child development practices.

        Consistently maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family, including greeting and interacting with each parent and student every day in a friendly manner upon arrival and at departure.

        Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

        Under the coordination of the Lead Teacher and following their directions and expectations, act as the team leader for your classroom when the Lead Teacher is not present.

Requirements

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

        a minimum 1-2 years of experience in an early education center;

        some college-level courses in early education or a related field;

        extensive early education training including knowledge of early education teaching methods and child development theory;

        effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
