Summary
As an Assistant Teacher at New Beginnings Early Learning Center in Bristol, you'll work alongside our Head Teachers to create warm, engaging classrooms where young children birth through five feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. You'll help implement developmentally appropriate activities grounded in Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS), support children's growth across all developmental domains, and play a hands-on role in the daily life of the classroom. Duties
Classroom Support
- Assist Head Teacher in implementing daily activities, lessons, and learning center preparation
- Support children's engagement during small group instruction, transitions, and routines
- Help supervise children during indoor and outdoor play
- Support implementation of CT ELDS in daily classroom activities
Student Care and Development
- Support children's social-emotional development and positive peer interactions
- Assist children with self-help skills, personal care routines, and toilet training in partnership with families
- Support development of fine and gross motor skills
- Assist with mealtime routines, healthy eating habits, and hygiene practices
Health and Safety
- Maintain clean and sanitized indoor and outdoor learning environments
- Follow proper health, safety, and food handling protocols
- Assist with daily health checks and report safety concerns to Head Teacher or administration
- Follow proper procedures for diapering and toileting
Documentation and Communication
- Assist with daily documentation, attendance records, and DOTS assessment support
- Communicate children's daily activities to families at pickup and drop-off
- Share developmental observations with Head Teacher
- Document accidents or incidents as required and maintain confidentiality regarding children and families
Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following credential pathways:
- Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition
- CDA equivalent as defined by NAEYC -- at least 12 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education
- Associate's degree (AA) in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education
- AA equivalency as defined by NAEYC -- at least 60 college credits with a minimum of 30 credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education
- High school diploma or equivalent -- must earn a CDA or enroll in an accredited ECE degree program within the first year of employment
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strong understanding of child development principles
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a teaching team
