Summary
The HSB Coach (Healthy Social Behaviors Coach) provides resources, training, and practice-based coaching to childcare providers in licensed facilities to support the development of pro-social classroom environments and effective strategies for identifying, preventing, trauma-informed responses, and addressing challenging behaviors in young children.
This focuses on strengthening classroom support related to social-emotional development and reducing the expulsion of children from child care programs through coaching, professional development, and collaborative intervention.
This is a remote, full-time exempt position reporting to the HSB Statewide Program Directors and Project Coaching Manager.
Duties
- Provide coaching visits in licensed childcare facilities within assigned geographic areas to mentor and assist teachers and directors in promoting healthy social-emotional development
- Deliver professional development and training focused on social-emotional development and challenging behaviors using the HSB standardized training menu
- Maintain and update community resource lists of social-emotional practitioners, educators, behavioral specialists, and mental health professionals available to support childcare providers
- Cultivate partnerships with behavioral specialists, consultants, educators, and mental health professionals to strengthen resources for childcare providers
- Promote awareness of Healthy Social Behaviors Initiative resources among childcare providers and intermediary agencies
- Collaborate with the statewide Healthy Social Behaviors Initiative team and across North Carolina’s early care and education system to support project goals and evaluation outcomes
- Participate in project meetings, regional team meetings, community LICC meetings, foundational training, professional development opportunities, and special projects as directed
- Support project evaluation through data collection and timely completion of weekly data entry
- Participate in regular one-on-one meetings with the Project Coaching Manager and/or Program Director
- Ensure timely and appropriate internal and external communication
- Maintain confidentiality while advocating for children and families in support of agency goals
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, Child Psychology, or Social Work
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with preschool children, families, or programs serving young children
- EEC Level 11 recommended
- TAE and PDE required within one year of hire if not already obtained
- Teaching and/or administrative experience preferred

- Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Zoom
- Familiarity with laws and regulations governing childcare centers
- Knowledge of family, infants, childcare, and preschool environment rating scales
- Experience with the Pyramid Model and practice-based coaching strongly preferred
