Summary
The Georgia Pre-K Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher. This role assists in implementing developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the Georgia Pre-K Program standards, helps maintain a safe and nurturing classroom environment, and supports positive interactions that encourage curiosity, independence, and school readiness. The Assistant Teacher collaborates with the Lead Teacher to supervise children, prepare classroom materials, monitor daily routines, and communicate effectively with staff and families.
Duties
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the Georgia Pre-K Program standards.
- Support children’s learning through play-based activities, small group instruction, and guided classroom experiences.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that supports student engagement and development.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, outdoor play, rest time, and transitions.
- Assist with preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning centers.
- Support positive behavior guidance and promote social-emotional development among students.
- Observe and report student progress, behaviors, and needs to the Lead Teacher.
- Help maintain accurate classroom documentation and assist with required program records.
- Communicate professionally with staff and families as directed by the Lead Teacher or Program Director.
- Follow all Georgia Pre-K Program policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety procedures.
Requirements
Must Have one of the following:
- Valid Paraprofessional Certificate (issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission)
- Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (issued by the Council for Professional Recognition)
- TCC (Technical Certificate of Credit) in Early Childhood Education
- TCD (Technical College Diploma) in Early Childhood Education
- AA, AS, AAS, AAT (Associate Degree)
- Montessori Diploma (Montessori courses must be taken from an accredited affiliate of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education [MACTE])
- BA, BS (Bachelor’s degree
- Georgia PSC Certified Teacher
- MA, MS (Master’s Degree)
- Specialist Degree or PhD
