Summary

The Shyne School is seeking an experienced Assistant Teacher with a background in Early Childhood Education to join our Sunshiner Class. This role supports our pre-kindergarten program for students aged 4 to 5 as they prepare for their transition to kindergarten in the fall.

 

We aim to provide the highest quality program on the Eastside, exceeding licensing requirements through our participation in Early Achievers. You will work Monday through Friday, 9:​00 AM to 5:15 PM (paid 30-minute lunch break), assisting a Lead Teacher who holds an ECE degree and has been with our school for 1​7 years.

 

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in the following areas:

 

-​ Guiding behavior

​- Plan and post weekly curriculum for parents.

- Distributing quarterly newsletters.

- Tracking child progress and maintaining student portfolios.

- Completing developmental checklists and participating in parent conferences.

- Managing the classroom environment.

 

We value the essential work our teachers do and strive to create a supportive professional environment. We are looking for warm, nurturing educators who embrace a developmental constructionist approach, providing a rich environment that encourages children to become active constructors of their own knowledge. This class goes outside for 30 to 90 minutes of play 3 to 4 times a day with audio and visual teacher supervision.

 

Our goal is for new teachers to transition into the classroom effectively before taking over the position full-time. ​We look for long time teachers interested in committing 2 or more years.

Duties

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. 



RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

* Maintain an environment for children that is clean, safe, stimulating and are appropriate for each child’s and the group’s developmental level. * Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the school. * Promote healthy eating practices through modeling.

TO advance motor and intellectual competence * Supporting emerging literacy and language development in response to each individual child’s interest through whole language experience. * Use equipment and material for indoor and outdoor play that promotes children’s fine and gross motor development.

TO support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance * Treat each child, co-worker, and parent with dignity and respect. * Help each child to become aware off his/her role as an integral member of a group. * Support a curriculum that reflects the culture diversity of the group.

TO establish positive and productive relationships with families * View parent-teacher relationship as a partnership, focusing on each child’s individual strengths and abilities. * Support and implement hands-on activities that develop self-esteem. * Use and promote positive guidance techniques and a variety of creative and expressive activities. * Address any parent concern in a timely and appropriate manner. Communicate any issues with the Director if necessary or if Director’s support is needed.

To ensure a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant needs * Supervise and implement the curriculum in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the program. * Assist in the observation and documentation of individual and group progress through anecdotal notes, development checklist, portfolio assessments and other designated screenings. * Complete documentation within agency guidelines and time limits. * Complete paperwork required for local, state, and federal agencies.

To maintain a commitment to professionalism * Attend all staff meetings and in-services training. Meet STARS requirements by attending recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth. * Maintaining professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education. * Maintain flexibility and consistency with all staff. * Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, families, and children always. * Relate to families in a positive and respectful manner.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate/GED.

• Child Care Basics* - Free, online training with a three-month timeline.

• First Aid/CPR – reimburse for training

• Blood Borne Pathogens, free online training

• Food Handlers Permit

• Enhancing Quality of Early Learning, year 1 and year 2

• 10-hour Annual In-service Training following EQEL

·       STARS ID number

·       Registered with MERIT

·       Completed Department of Early Learning Portable Background Card.

·       Two or more years of classroom experience.

 

Degree majors that count: (Must Obtain within 3 years of being hired)

If you do not have a degree in ECE or a related field, you are required to get an initial certificate in ECE within 5 years of your start date. We are an Early Achievers school and staff qualify for the EA Grant to pay for school. Required Courses (12 Credits Total)

ECED& 105: Introduction to Early Childhood Education (5 credits) – Covers the foundations of the field, including theories, best practices, and program models.

ECED& 107: Health, Safety, and Nutrition (5 credits) – Focuses on ensuring child wellness in group care settings, recognizing signs of abuse, and mandated reporting.

ECED& 120: Practicum – Nurturing Relationships (2 credits) – A hands-on course where you engage in an early learning setting to practice building supportive relationships with children and peers. 

 

Related degree majors include: 

• Human development with a specialization in ECE

• Children’s studies/childhood education


QUALIFICATIONS

Must have knowledge of and be able to implement a developmental constructionist approach. Be professionally prepared to be a teacher for young children. In addition, he/she must be able to meet the requirements of the city and state licensing agencies. Must be willing to further your education in Early Childhood Education and meet state requirements for STARS.

The Shyne School is in Woodinville, Washington; about one mile North of Redmond city limits, on Avondale Road. We specialize in licensed play-based educational programs for children ages 1 to 5 years old. Parents have the flexibility to choose from three different daily schedules for toddlers through Pre-Kindergarten. We have long-term staff.
