Summary

Part time, entry level position working in a child care program. This position provides logistical and operational support to teaching staff by assisting with meal service, laundry, compliance paperwork, and classroom coverage needs. The role helps ensure a clean, organized, and well-supported environment for both staff and children.  The child care program is located at a retirement community, Kendal@Ithaca, which requires professional interactions with Kendal staff and residents.

Duties

Meal Service

  • Serve lunch to classrooms in accordance with program schedules
  • Ensure proper portioning and adherence to nutrition guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food service areas
  • Follow all food safety and handling procedures

Laundry

  • Collect, wash, dry, and distribute classroom laundry (e.g., linens, towels)
  • Ensure timely turnaround of clean materials for classroom use

CACFP Documentation

  • Accurately complete required CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) paperwork
  • Record meal counts and required documentation daily
  • Ensure compliance with all CACFP guidelines and procedures
  • Communicate any discrepancies or concerns to administration

Classroom Support

  • Provide coverage for staff bathroom breaks and brief absences
  • Support classroom routines as needed to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and engaging environment for children

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required

Professional communication with Kendal staff and residents

Professional communication with Co-workers

Team oriented approach to problem solving

30 hours of training every two years (15 in the first six months of employment)

Be responsible, reliable, and dependable

Pass a Comprehensive Background Check

Experience in a childcare or school setting preferred

Ability to follow health, safety, and compliance regulations

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds

Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as laundry and food service

Perform other duties as assigned
