Summary

Friends Center is an early childhood education center providing year-round, full-time care for children ages 3 months to 5 years. We offer a child-centered, hands-on learning experience in a safe and nurturing environment. At the Center, children learn through creative play and a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities. Position Summary: The Facilities Associate reports directly to the Facilities Manager and Facilities Director, and is responsible for supporting Friends Center facilities and maintenance operations. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to, basic electrical and plumbing work, painting, landscaping (grass mowing and weed whacking), property clean up, general maintenance tasks, snow removal, setting up and breaking down for events, and ensuring all facilities are in good working order. The Facilities Associate participates fully in the culture and community life of Friends Center.


Reports to: Vice President of Facilities and Operations

Classification: Exempt

Hours: FT (40 hours a week with occasional evenings and weekends as needed)

Salary Range: starting at $20.00 per hour

Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Physical Labor 65%

  • Assist with maintenance and building projects such as:
  • Landscaping - snow/ice removal, grounds maintenance, grass mowing, weed whacking
  • Moving - furniture, materials 
  • Painting 

Daily Maintenance 35%

  • Minor plumbing, electrical, and roofing tasks
  • Cleaning - gutters, windows, floors 
  • Handle custodial tasks as needed and directed
  • Assist with set-up for events including staff meetings and special community events
  • Keep on-site and off-site storage areas tidy and organized
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Transporting the Books With Friends mobile library to and from events across New Haven
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director or Manager

Requirements

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED, Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel up/down a flight of stairs, stand for long durations, and read and understand information on a computer screen
  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a related field preferred
  • Mechanical knowledge with the ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
