Summary
The ECEAP Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in implementing a high quality early childhood education program for preschool aged children enrolled in the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP). This position assists with classroom instruction, child supervision, family engagement, and compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards and state licensing requirements. The Assistant Teacher contributes to a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes school readiness and positive child outcomes.

Duties
Classroom Support & Instruction
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive curriculum
- Support daily classroom activities that promote learning across all developmental domains
- Engage children in meaningful interactions that encourage exploration, problem‑solving, and social‑emotional growth
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment
Child Supervision & Guidance
- Provide active supervision of children at all times, indoors and outdoors
- Implement positive guidance strategies consistent with program policies
- Support routines such as meals, rest time, transitions, and hygiene practices
Assessment & Documentation
- Assist with child observations and documentation as directed by the Lead Teacher
- Support preparation of materials for assessments, screenings, and child portfolios
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with ECEAP and organizational requirements
Family Engagement
- Build respectful, supportive relationships with families
- Participate in family events, conferences, and communication efforts as assigned
- Support the Lead Teacher in providing resources and referrals to families
Collaboration & Professionalism
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, classroom team, and interdisciplinary staff
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development required by ECEAP
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all program, licensing, and organizational policies
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures consistently
- Assist with meal service, sanitation, and classroom cleanliness
- Support inclusive practices and accommodations for children with disabilities or special needs
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework meeting ECEAP Assistant Teacher requirements (e.g., Initial ECE Certificate, equivalent credits, or willingness to complete required coursework within established timelines)
- Experience working with young children in an early learning or childcare setting
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow program policies

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Experience in ECEAP, Head Start, or other state‑funded preschool programs
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities
- Training in Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, or similar early learning systems
