Summary

Teachers at Malaika Early Learning Center are held to the highest standards and are required to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for students, while facilitating developmentally appropriate curriculum to promote optimal physical, social/emotional, and intellectual growth of young children.

Duties

The teacher’s duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment so that all students are invested in their academic excellence, social/emotional growth, and character development, and can fulfill their potential. 
  • Provide for the physical safety and well-being of students, specifically while on school grounds, and in some circumstances off campus (field trips etc.).
  • Evaluate individual student academic progress and achievement through regular and varied assessments. 
  • Develop student learning objectives and professional practice goals that reflect the needs of your students and your own learning on their behalf. 
  • Use an effective system for tracking student progress and mastery of curricular objectives for each unit and throughout the school year.
  • Maintain frequent communication with parents/caregivers regarding student growth and achievement, including at least two Parent-Teacher Conferences over the course of the year.
  • Develop and implement daily instruction plans as part of scope/sequence set by the curriculum, state standards and other learning standards.
  • Routinely collaborate with colleagues in developing, delivering and reflecting on lesson plans, student centered goals, and instruction in order to recognize growth/achievement and address gaps in growth/achievement accordingly.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to promote learning across all developmental and academic domains. 
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all students through a variety of differentiation strategies.
  • Integrate technology appropriately to support student learning.
  • Utilize positive, developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies and demonstrate responses to behaviors that are respectful to the integrity of each child.
  • Maintain student records as required by Malaika Early Learning Center.
  • Attend school activities/events and serve on event committees.
  • Participate in professional development trainings and collaborate with colleagues to integrate best practices for continuous improvement. 
  • Comply with requirements related to partnerships with contracted services such as First Stage, Wehr Nature Center, and Title I Services.
  • Assist with student recruitment efforts as requested.
  • Other duties as directed by the Site Director.

Requirements

  • At least one year of teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Demonstrated mastery and enthusiasm for content knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Head Start experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of educational curriculum and national standards for early education
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards
  • Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children standards
  • Knowledge of Common Core State Standards
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License, preferred (Early Childhood, birth- age 8, prioritized) preferred
