Description

Summary

The Van Driver is responsible for providing children with a safe and healthy riding experience. Drop off and/or pick up children from center, home, and at local elementary schools in the company's van (on pre-assigned route and schedule). Follow all traffic safety laws and follow the specific requirements for each school’s drop-off and pick-up processes.

Duties

Hold or be willing to attain a current age-appropriate CPR/First Aid certification. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as needed in daily activities and emergency situations. Van Driver must be willing to: interact with and oversee school-age children during both indoor and outdoor activities as the program requires. Demonstrate the ability to assume primary responsibility for developing a schedule, structured activities, and provide guidance and homework assistance for school-aged children. Consistently work assigned hours. Be punctual. Have an exceptionally warm, friendly personality and exceptional customer service skills that include respect, patience, empathy, honesty, and kindness. Enjoy interacting with children and their families and has the ability to keep children engaged throughout the duration of before and after-school time. Excellent organizational, classroom management, and time management skills. Have the ability to handle confidential information, listen attentively, be mentally and verbally agile, and use strong, effective communication. Must be able to work with staff, children and families from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must be a self-motivated, creative, and innovative professional with the ability to solve problems with creativity and civility. Have the ability to manage daily tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while paying close attention to details. Be available Monday through Friday between 6:30 am - 8:00 am for before care pick up/drop off and 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm for after school pick up/drop off and occasionally at other times outside these windows for fields trips when children are out of school. Must be available for mandatory monthly staff meetings.


All selected candidates are required to successfully complete a criminal background check.


Requirements

As Van Driver, you must:

-Be 25 years of age or older (for insurance purposes)

-Hold a valid driver's license and have an excellent driving record.

-Stay current with all licensing and company policies and procedures.

-Have good written and verbal communication skills.

Credentials and Experience:

Valid driver's license and willing to drive a 16-passenger van. Must be at least 25 years of age (for insurance purposes) and have at least a high school diploma or GED. At least three months experience in a childcare setting working directly with school-age children. Candidates with driving experience and who have earned a CDA, TCC, or TCD are preferred but not required.

Documentation Required:

Completed application, cover letter & current résumé with references, in-person interview (upon request), orientation and training (upon job offer), criminal background check & fingerprinting (upon job offer), current CPR and First Aid for pediatrics and adults, impeccable traffic and driving history (history will be obtained), 2-hour transportation safety training

Work Relationship:

Report to Center and/or Project Directors. Work closely with other members of the Day-Star Team.

Performance Measures:

Reliability, accuracy, and thoroughness of work performed will all be primary measures. Additional measures include interaction with team members, the students and their families; particularly important is building trust with the children and families in our program.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a camp counselor or after-school program teacher is preferred; driving experience, especially of large vehicles/16-passenger vans, is preferred.
