Summary
The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing the financial operations of First Church Academy for Young Children (FCAYC). This is a part-time position, 20-25 hours/week, 52 weeks per year. The Bookkeeper reports to the Director of First Church Academy for Young Children.
First Church Academy is a dynamic, warm, and progressive work environment. The Bookkeeper would work as part of an administrative team providing ongoing reporting of the Academy's financial status to guide decisions around income and expenses.
First Church Academy for Young Children, located in the heart of West Hartford CT, is a private, nonprofit, NAEYC Accredited, OEC licensed program serving children 6 weeks through 5 years of age. We are a full year program. Our mission is to provide an encouraging, loving, learning environment that nurtures the growth of the whole child.
Duties
- Maintain a financially sustainable program of educational excellence for young children in keeping with nationally accepted standards, such as those developed by the National Association for the Young Child (NAEYC).
- Manage and monitor all financial matters relating to FCAYC.
- Work with the FCAYC Director on developing the FCAYC operating budget.
- Provide full and accurate reports on a regular and as-needed basis to the FCAYC Director, First Church of Christ (FCC) Director of Finance of Operations and the FCC Business Team.
- Maintain the accounting software database (Quickbooks).
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank transfers, and bank deposits.
- Work with the FCAYC Director on implementing tuition policies.
- Manage family financial ledgers, including invoicing and payments, in the childcare software program (ProCare).
- Serve as member of the First Church Academy for Young Children Advisory Work Group and attend meetings as requested.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ bookkeeping and accounting experience required.
- Proficiency in Quickbooks accounting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze work and initiate improvements.
- Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
