Substitute Teacher

Summary

We are seeking a dependable and flexible Substitute Teacher to support our daycare classrooms as needed. The ideal candidate will help maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children while ensuring daily routines and classroom activities run smoothly in the absence of the regular teacher. This role involves supervising children, assisting with age-appropriate learning activities, supporting social and emotional development, and following established lesson plans and center policies. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for early childhood care are essential.

Duties

• Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
• Maintain daily classroom routines, schedules, and behavior expectations
• Implement lesson plans and activities provided by the lead teacher or director
• Engage children in age-appropriate educational, play, and creative activities
• Assist with meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, and nap time as needed
• Monitor and support children’s social, emotional, and developmental needs
• Manage classroom behavior using positive guidance techniques
• Communicate effectively with daycare staff regarding classroom needs or concerns
• Follow all center policies, state regulations, and health and safety procedures
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment

Requirements

• Is at least 18 years of age.
• At least 2 credits or one noncredit, department-approved course in early childhood education before completing 240 cumulative hours of work as a substitute. 

Nice To Haves

• Associates degree or higher education
• Experience as a lead teacher in a daycare
