Summary

We are seeking a part time assistant teacher to help us temporarily while a teacher is on maternity leave from February-May. We are hoping to hire ASAP to get some training in. We are a nature based child care center seeking candidates who enjoy being outdoors and active. Candidates must be flexible; be able to multi-task; and take guidance from the lead teachers. A positive attitude is a must. Most training for this position can be accomplished on the job (i.e., CPR, SIDS, SBS, etc.). This position requires you to work with children ages 3 mos -5 yrs. The duties span from changing diapers, cleaning, and laundry to assisting with gardening, hiking, and other daily scheduled activities. Some of the experiences you will gain while working with us...taking hikes in the forest; trips to the park; enjoying water play in the backyard; ice skating behind the library; joining in the community festivities on the town square; enjoying a visit with the FFA farm animals; hatching baby chicks; growing yummy vegetables in our gardens; baking muffins; wet-on-wet painting; and much more! Work hours may vary, yet will be approximately 30-34 hours/wk., approximate hours: M-Th with an occasional Friday: 8:30-4:30/5pm,, with the potential for additional hours when needed and potential for hours in the summer.

Duties

o To role model positive behavior including acting as a team player, problem-solving, protecting confidentiality, and respecting everyone.

o Commitment to continuing education per DCF 251 requirements

o First responsibility is to the needs of the primary caregiver

o Primary caregiver will respond first to the needs of the youngest infants and assistant will care for the older children unless otherwise requested

o For whichever room you lunch with, help the primary caregiver remain at the table to model good manners and peaceful mealtimes

o Care for children at table if primary caregiver needs to leave the table

o Help children clear table and wash dishes according to DCF 251 standards as needed

o Assist with laundry including changing cots and kitchen/classroom hampers

o Empty garbage and diaper pails, vacuum, tidy suites, etc. at end of day per assigned closing duties on weekly staff schedule

o Care for children in each suite when primary caregiver is on break at naptime & during curriculum planning time

o Help with snack preparations, snack clean up, &/or lunch clean up when assigned on the schedule

o Assist with maintaining the gardens & play spaces (including, but not limited to: weeding gardens, tidying mulched areas; sweeping sand back in sand box, sweeping concrete/wooden areas, etc.)

o Assist with classroom clean up and keeping the environment organized during assigned clean up times

o Assist children with self-help skills, such as toilet training, teeth brushing, hair brushing, washing hands, etc.

Requirements

  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Help plan and attend 2 festivals per year
  • Participate in one work day per year
  • Complete and document continuing education as outlined by DCF 251 requirements
  • Complete State of Wisconsin assistant caregiver requirements
  • Commitment to ongoing training through monthly in-services for length of employment.
  • Commitment to learning the domestic arts 
  • Must be physically, mentally and emotionally able to provide responsible care for all children including children with disabilities
  • Comfortable taking children outside and on walking field trips/hikes
  • Comfortable navigating the natural world and enjoys outdoor activities and interactions
  • Effectively utilizes basic behavioral guidance techniques
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient organizational skills and efficiency
  • Establishes rapport with children and is able to maintain order, balance
  • Maintains appropriate records, logs or files as needed
  • Possesses a basic understanding of good nutrition 
  • High school diploma/GED
