Summary

Primary Daily Responsibilities

• Sanitization: Cleaning and disinfecting high-touch areas like doorknobs, light switches, tables, chairs, and toys using child-safe products.
• Restroom Cleaning: Thoroughly cleaning, scrubbing, and disinfecting toilets, sinks, and countertops, and replenishing supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
• Floor Care: Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming all classroom, hallway, and office floors.
• Trash Removal: Emptying all indoor and outdoor trash receptacles.
• Safety Checks: Inspecting classrooms, play areas, and playgrounds for broken glass, debris, or hazards, particularly before children arrive. 

Weekly and Occasional Duties 

• Deep Cleaning: Washing windows, walls, and mirrors, as well as cleaning appliances and furniture.
• Maintenance: Changing light bulbs, minor repairs to furniture/equipment, and cleaning HVAC vents.
• Groundskeeping: Cleaning walkways, playgrounds, and ensuring entries are clear of snow/ice. 

Safety and Operational Requirements

• Hazard Reporting: Informing supervisors immediately of any safety hazards, broken equipment, or building issues.
• Chemical Safety: Following strict procedures for handling and storing cleaning chemicals.
• Compliance: Adhering to health and safety regulations for licensed child care facilities. 

Duties

Janitors in childcare centers are responsible for maintaining a safe, sanitary, and healthy environment for children by performing daily cleaning, disinfecting, and maintenance. Key duties include sanitizing toys, high-touch surfaces, and restrooms; sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; taking out trash; and ensuring outdoor playgrounds are free of debris and hazards. Landscaping will also be involved.

Requirements

High School Diploma or above

Transportation

Able to lift at least 40 pounds

Able to work a 40 hour week
