Summary

Bailey’s Childcare & Learning Center is seeking a dependable, bilingual Assistant to support daily center operations and classroom needs. This role requires someone who can work independently, make sound decisions in real time, maintain compliance with Virginia state licensing requirements and local health/safety regulations, and communicate professionally with families and staff. The Assistant will help ensure the center runs smoothly, safely, and in a well-organized manner.

Duties

  • Support daily operations.
  • Assist with attendance tracking, sign-in/sign-out procedures, and daily reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and files (enrollment documents, incident reports, allergy lists, emergency contacts, staffing documents, etc.).
  • Assist with scheduling, supply ordering, and organizing classrooms/office areas.
  • Help prepare documents and support the Director with audits, inspections, and compliance checklists.
  • Follow and help enforce Virginia child care licensing standards and applicable local regulations (health, sanitation, fire safety, child supervision, ratios, and required documentation).
  • Support implementation of center policies including confidentiality, mandated reporting, supervision, discipline guidance, and health procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining required logs (cleaning, allergy, medication, incident/accident, visitor logs, and attendance as applicable).
  • Act quickly and responsibly during emergencies; support drills and safety protocols.
  • Support teachers with classroom management, transitions, and maintaining a clean/safe learning environment.
  • Assist with supervision of children during indoor/outdoor play, meals, rest time, arrival/dismissal, and field trips as assigned.
  • Help prepare learning materials and support daily routines to keep classrooms organized and running smoothly.
  • Promote positive child guidance and respectful communication.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians in a professional, respectful, and culturally responsive way.
  • Translate or assist bilingual communication when needed (Spanish).
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • 2+ year experience in a childcare, preschool, school, pediatric, or youth program setting preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required or must be willing and able to obtain CDA within a designated timeframe after hire (as determined by the Center Director).
  • Experience supporting administrative tasks and/or classroom support strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with licensing inspections, documentation requirements, and child supervision standards.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make responsible decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong reliability: consistent attendance, punctuality, and dependable follow-through.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and professional judgment.
  • Comfort using basic technology for daily operations (email, digital attendance systems, scanning/printing, basic spreadsheets).
  • Ability to meet physical demands of a childcare setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience with Brightwheel/KinderConnect (or similar systems).
  • Bilingual (English + Spanish).
