Summary

Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom.


The Lead Toddler Teacher creates a warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate environment for children ages 18–36 months. This role supports toddlers’ rapid growth in language, mobility, social‑emotional skills, and independence. The Lead Teacher models ethical conduct, reflective practice, and high‑quality care consistent with NAEYC standards.

Duties


1. Curriculum & Learning Experiences (NAEYC Standards 1 & 5)

  • Plan and implement play‑based, sensory‑rich activities that support toddlers’ exploration and emerging skills.
  • Embed early language, motor development, problem‑solving, and self‑help skills into daily routines.
  • Adapt experiences to meet individual developmental needs, interests, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Create a predictable yet flexible schedule that supports toddlers’ need for security and autonomy.

2. Relationships & Social‑Emotional Support (NAEYC Standard 4)

  • Build trusting, nurturing relationships with each child through responsive caregiving.
  • Support toddlers’ emotional regulation, emerging communication, and peer interactions.
  • Use positive guidance strategies that honor toddlers’ developmental stage and need for co‑regulation.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and safety in the classroom.

3. Family Partnerships (NAEYC Standard 2)

  • Communicate daily with families about routines, learning, and developmental progress.
  • Partner with families to understand each child’s home culture, routines, and individual needs.
  • Conduct parent conferences, events, and engagement activities.

4. Observation, Assessment & Documentation (NAEYC Standard 3)

  • Conduct ongoing observations to understand each child’s development.
  • Document milestones, emerging skills, and areas for support.
  • Use assessment information to individualize curriculum and share progress with parents.
  • Collect, organize and maintain an individual child’s portfolio.

5. Health, Safety & Care Routines (NAEYC Standard 6)

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and toddler‑friendly environment.
  • Follow all licensing regulations, health guidelines, and program policies.
  • Support toddlers through diapering, toileting readiness, feeding, and rest routines with respect and sensitivity.
  • Ensure constant supervision and appropriate ratios.

6. Professionalism & Leadership (NAEYC Standard 6 & Code of Ethics)

  • Model ethical behavior, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Mentor assistant teachers and support staff.
  • Complete educational course (20 hours a year) and required certification ( CPR. First Aid, Epi Pen and Medication)
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and reflective practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive, team‑oriented environment.
  • Complete required reports accurately and on time.

Requirements


  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (preferred).
  • At least 2 years experience working with toddlers in a licensed early childhood setting.
  • Knowledge of NAEYC standards, DAP, and responsive caregiving practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive care.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, sit on the floor for prolonged periods and get up again is required.
