Summary
The Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teachers and Program Director in providing a caring, safe, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role is essential in fostering children’s growth and supporting a high-quality early childhood education program. The Teacher Assistant will work collaboratively with the teaching team to implement developmentally appropriate activities, nurture positive relationships with children and families, and maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Lead Teachers in delivering a quality educational program aligned with early learning standards and developmentally appropriate practices
- Assist in planning and implementing activities that promote children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development
- Ensure a safe, clean, and healthy classroom environment at all times
- Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being, both indoors and outdoors
- Engage with children in a respectful and nurturing manner, encouraging exploration and learning through play
- Observe and document children’s interests, progress, and developmental milestones
- Communicate observations and concerns to the teaching team and participate in discussions about classroom planning
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with families, supporting ongoing communication and collaboration
- Work cooperatively with all staff to create a cohesive team environment
- Follow all licensing, YMCA, NAEYC and center policies and procedures
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Previous experience working with young children in a classroom or childcare setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Understanding of basic principles of child development
- Must pass background checks (get fingerprinted)
- Experience with NAEYC
- Current physical
- Reliable transportation
