Summary

The Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teachers and Program Director in providing a caring, safe, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role is essential in fostering children’s growth and supporting a high-quality early childhood education program. The Teacher Assistant will work collaboratively with the teaching team to implement developmentally appropriate activities, nurture positive relationships with children and families, and maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.




Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Lead Teachers in delivering a quality educational program aligned with early learning standards and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Assist in planning and implementing activities that promote children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and healthy classroom environment at all times
  • Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being, both indoors and outdoors
  • Engage with children in a respectful and nurturing manner, encouraging exploration and learning through play
  • Observe and document children’s interests, progress, and developmental milestones
  • Communicate observations and concerns to the teaching team and participate in discussions about classroom planning
  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with families, supporting ongoing communication and collaboration
  • Work cooperatively with all staff to create a cohesive team environment
  • Follow all licensing, YMCA, NAEYC and center policies and procedures

Requirements


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Previous experience working with young children in a classroom or childcare setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Understanding of basic principles of child development
  • Must pass background checks (get fingerprinted)
  • Experience with NAEYC
  • Current physical
  • Reliable transportation
