First Steps is seeking a part-time afternoon teacher for our Preschool program, to start ASAP. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in an early childhood educational setting, and especially have experience working with children ages 3-5. The preferred candidate will also hold a minimum of a C.D.A in early childhood education or beyond, or is currently working toward a related degree. The hours for this position are 12:30pm-5:30pm Monday through Friday. Experience and knowledge of DHS rules and regulations as well as Developmentally Appropriate Practices is preferred. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children of all ages and be flexible, energetic, professional, and eager to be part of an excellent team of early childhood educators.
-Supervise and provide care for young children, following DHS rules and regulations
-Help implement developmentally appropriate curriculum
-Engage, play, and be actively involved in the care and activities of the children
-Coordinate with the other teachers in the room with everyday cleaning and other duties
-Attend required monthly Staff Meetings
-Complete required trainings per DHS requirements and First Steps requirements
-Hold and maintain current certification in CPR/1st Aid for all ages
-Be willing or open to further education in early childhood education or a related field as is warranted
-At least 18 years old
-Minimum high school diploma or GED
-Able to lift 40 lbs, bend, crouch, get on floor with children
-Must pass background check
-Minimum 2 years experience in an early childhood educational setting preferred
-Five or more years in an early childhood educational setting
-Two or more years specifically working with preschoolers
-C.D.A. or higher in early childhood education or related field

First Steps Child Development Center has been a pillar in Early Childhood Education in the community for over 60 years. First Steps offers the highest standard of childcare and early childhood education for ages 6 weeks through age 5, with six classrooms and separate indoor and outdoor gym areas. The Center is housed within the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, TN and operates as a "daughter ministry" of the church. However, the program is not a religious program in nature. First Steps has consistently been a 3 Star Center in the State of Tennessee, and is currently going through national accreditation as a Center of Excellence with NECPA. Over 63% of our teachers hold a minimum of a C.D.A in Early Childhood Education, with many having bachelor's and master's degrees as well.
