Aftercare Teacher

Summary

The Family Child Care Aftercare Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for 6-8 children who are 2-5 years old during after-school hours. This role supports children’s social, emotional, and academic development through structured activities, free play, and positive guidance within a family child care setting.

Duties

• Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children during aftercare hours
• Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (art, games, STEM, reading, outdoor play)
• Foster positive behavior using developmentally appropriate guidance techniques
• Create a warm, inclusive, and respectful environment for all children
• Maintain daily routines, including snack time, cleanup, and transitions
• Communicate effectively with families
• Follow all family child care policies, licensing regulations, and health/safety procedures
• Keep the aftercare area clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (ECE coursework or degree preferred)
• Experience working young children in child care, aftercare, or educational settings
• Knowledge of child development and positive behavior support strategies
• Ability to supervise multiple children and manage group dynamics
• Ability to actively supervise children, including standing, bending, and outdoor play
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds if needed
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Background check clearance as required by state licensing
• Release of Information Form signed by a notary
• Medical Record Form- cleared to work with children
• Ability to take 6 hours of Professional Development over a one year period
