We need a long term substitute lead teacher to cover a multiage classroom during a teacher's maternity leave from February 1- approximately May 1st. We would like the person to start as early as possible to receive training (at least 2 weeks prior to February 1st).
Care of children assigned to your suite
o Follow guiding principles of The Climbing Tree
o Plan & implement curriculum that establishes daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms in domestic arts, artwork, outdoor living, sensorial/experiential learning, nature experiences, food preparations, & holidays/festivals.
o Establish lifestyle respectful of individual developmental needs as well as “family suite” dynamics
o Encourage self-help, self-image, self-esteem in children
o Establish consistent, age-appropriate behavioral boundaries including appropriate manners, social interaction, respect for peers and adults
o Prepare daily information sheet for children under 2 to be given to parents at pick up
o Establish diapering and toilet learning routine according to individual needs in conjunction with parents
Set up and care for environment for comfort, safety, and motivation of all ages
o Follow guiding principles of The Climbing Tree
o Include materials that encourage the imagination and curiosity of each age group
o Create a safe place for infants
o Facilitate infant’s freedom of movement to assist in child’s personal growth and development
o Offer opportunities for domestic arts, fine and gross motor development, solitude, books, and puppetry
o Create a soothing nap room used only for sleep/rest.
o Include materials and activities that encourage respect for the natural environment and fellow creatures of the earth
o Establish a nature table
o Includes gardening and basic yard maintenance
o Bring safety concerns to the attention of the Director
Maintain classroom & outdoor learning environments
o Clean suite on a regular basis including children in age-appropriate tasks (vacuum when children are not present). Cleaning tasks include; toys clean-up times (9:30am, nap, & end of the day); spot clean bathroom when needed during the day; chalkboards wiped nightly; diapering station cleaned per licensing standards after each use; bookshelves/toy shelves & windowsills dusted weekly; teacher area kept decluttered and organized; nap room laundry stripped every Friday for laundering; cubbies & dressers kept clean and organized daily.
o Water plants with the children weekly as part of curriculum
Outdoor environment responsibilities per season
•1+ years of professional child care experience.
•Degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 Credits in ECE.
•Experience in gardening/nature
•Creative art/hand skills (crocheting, knitting, sewing, needle felting, watercolor painting, drawing, etc.)
•Musical talent (instrument and/or singing)
