A floating teacher is responsible for managing the operation of any classroom assigned, while overseeing the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of the children. It is vital that the teacher have a fun, outgoing personality to be able to provide a positive and engaging atmosphere for children of all ages. Children are naturally curious and often push boundaries as they are learning their place in the world. The teacher must exhibit patience, compassion, a sense of humor, and an understanding of the developmental expectations of the children. Effective communication skills with children and adults is essential to ensure the developmental needs of the children are met. These communication skills also aid in developing a good working relationship with co-teachers and resolving any parent concerns that arise. The floating teacher may have a part-time schedule in an assigned classroom each day but will be required to work additional hours in other classrooms as the need arises.
Work in any classroom to cover staff outages. This would involve working in a few different classes some days.
Provide a safe, nurturing and positive learning environment
Maintain appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards
Ensure center policies and state regulations are met
Follow provided daily schedule
Utilize provided curriculum materials to promote language, fine motor, large motor, cognitive, and social emotional development
Engage and interact with children to foster their self-esteem and help them meet developmental milestones
Read, sing songs, dance, and play with children
Serve snack and lunch at designated times
Change diapers and/or assist with potty training
Communicate with parents daily regarding children's development, temperament, activities, etc.
High school diploma or GED
Clear background check
CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
High Energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, parents) to foster a team environment and ensure quality care is provided to all children
A strong understanding of child development
Able to work independently or with a co-teacher
Able to Lift over 40 pounds with ease and 40-50 pounds when needed
Able to bend, kneel, squat, crawl, and reach throughout the shift without difficulty
Able to sit on the floor to engage with children and rise from the floor without difficulty
Possess good balance and be able to walk easily, navigating around children, toys, and furniture
Flexible availability Monday thru Friday during operational hours and the ability to adapt to changes in classroom assignment
Previous experience in an early childhood setting
CDA (Child Development Associate)
Free Childcare for staff children
Full-time staff: Holiday pay after 90 days, vacation and sick pay after 1 year of employment
